Fences are a suggestion
We bought livestock panels. The goats bought stock in parkour. If an animal can fit a nose through it, they consider the matter settled. Startup farming is mostly the art of being outsmarted politely.
We started this farm on October 4, 2022, with more hope than hardware and a confidence that lasted exactly until the first goat tested the fence. We are a family business. Christ is not a slogan on the gate โ He is why the gate stays open.

We welcome children and families here as guests of a household that belongs to Christ. You do not need to share our faith to visit, learn, or laugh with the goats. You will hear us give thanks out loud, treat people as image-bearers, and keep our programs safe, kind, and unhurried.

No pamphlet mentions the hour a heat lamp fails, or the way a water trough freezes the morning you already have church clothes on. We learned by doing, then by doing it again in the rain.
The starter spreadsheet had a line for 'miscellaneous.' Miscellaneous turned out to be the whole farm. Hay, vet calls, a gate hinge with opinions, and the tractor that starts only when you are already late.
Water, hay, eggs, a headcount that only counts if every ear is where it belongs. The chickens run the morning briefing. They vote by volume.
Shade checks, hoof glances, a walk down the fence line, and the eternal hunt for the bucket that was 'right here.' Chores are a liturgy. You do them whether you feel holy or not.
Close the coop. Count again. Thank God the donkey did not open the latch with his face. Sit on the porch. Let the day leave before you do.
A kid who has gathered an egg, brushed a horse, and been leaned on by a donkey will carry that in their bones. We built this so they could.
The farm does not flatter. It also does not lie. You show up, you tend what is living, and the day is already a kind of prayer.
Goat yoga, camps, a birthday with hay in it, a quiet hour beside a horse โ these are not extras. They are how a family farm loves a town.
